- A maid held “prisoner” by a diplomat makes a cloak-and-dagger escape, Erica Pearson reports for the New York Daily News. The 38-year-old woman was one of many domestic workers who come from overseas on special visas to serve in the households of diplomats stationed in the U.S.. Immigrants’ rights groups say it’s not unusual for employers to confiscate passports and forbid the employees to leave the house.
